February 1st, 2006 · No Comments

Chris Heuer’s BrainJams happened in DC on Monday, January 30th.

BrainJam’s is a refreshing new approach to knowledge sharing, networking, and the introduction of new technology concepts. It’s a full day event and is non-stop for nearly seven hours. The premise is “what do you want to talk about. ” Of course, I wanted to talk about building relationships and online content distribution and we did when we discussed these trends:

One Word or Two: Tips and techniques on tagging Blog discover

Word-of-mouth influences on “company relationship management”

Social Bookmaking: Taxonomy challenges of unstructured individual interest and user-generate content

I’ve co-chair popular conference in past for JupiterMedia and I like to think of myself as the “Phil Donahue” of conference moderation. I just really dig getting out into the crowd and giving people the mic so that they can vocalize what’s going on or just questions for clarification. In fact, I think the vocalization process is primarily what’s missing at most conferences and vocalizing ideas for me is a critical part of my thought process whether I’m developing new businesses or evaluating new tools.

Here’s what made BrainJams so compelling: everyone got involved and shared knowledge. Part of the success really does need to go to Chris who created an environment of trust but ensured that there was a shared understanding of concepts before bursting forward with industry buzz words and tools.

Conferenza, the blog, has been discussing new approaches to conferences, and they’ve mentioned BrainJams. It’s worth another look…
