I’m going to be paying close attention to how Crayonville’s launch in Second Life is covered in terms of images that appear in newspapers, journals as well as in online newsletter and specifically whether or not photo credits are given to AV’s (avatars) or whether journalist and editors will simply note that an image is from a simple screen grab or screenshot.
Just one week ago on Thursday, October 19th, The New York Time’s ran a large color image of the Sony & BMG welcome area in Second Life with three smaller images that appeared on the front page of the Business Day section that accompanied their story A Virtual World but Real Money. The images in the piece were simply referred to as: “Screen grabs from the Second Life universe, …”
I’ll be taking photos in SL with my camera as I cover the Crayonville launch event. I think I’ve become very skilled – the camera functions are not difficult to master even for me — over the past few months in terms of how I manipulate the camera’s view to capture images.
Perhaps Second Life is about to flip the world of assignment photography upside down? It’s way too early to tell…
