I’ve been working on a new mathematical equation to express connectedness. Here it is:
Publishing + Participation + OPML = Interest Recognition
Group Hug! Don’t you just love how publishing creates new opportunities to share, to participate, and to distribute? Now the challenging part is to link these actions to share interests and give individuals the opportunity to do things with these new connections. Two companies are moving in that very direction.
The first PeerProfile, in alpha, appears to be focused more on how content clusters can express individual and group relationships that others with like-minded content expressions can “related to.” Here’s what the site has to say:
We provide user profiles that display your Internet activity in popular services such as Del.icio.us, and Flickr. Users are categorized by their participation in the community, personality type, and their profession. Your profile is fully customizable so you decide which services to display.
I like the concept but we’ll need to see how PeerProfile will represent “interest ties” to other individuals especially when individuals have the control to close off elements of identity to protect their privacy. There is another hurdle that I’d love to see these guys address and, that is one of scale. How many connections can we as human manage even if we have technology tools and software to facilitate more connectedness? As PeerProfile grows and individuals begin the process of creating groups of interest while trying to avoid becoming a faceless member of yet another crowd won’t be easy. However, it will be an interesting process that I can’t wait to see realized.
Our beta software product — 2 Talk About – is already getting great early WOM for their announced relationship with Honda.
Here’s the low-down:
2TalkAbout is the place 2 talk about your favorite topics, products and brands. You can publish, comment, express your opinions, exchange information, and find out what other people with similar interests think.
2TalkAbout is an independent company which is passionate about bringing people together and encouraging dialogue, interaction and sharing views and content (text, audio, video).
Honda is the first major brand to support and engage with consumers through 2TalkAbout. If you want 2 talk about Honda, watch this space!
What will it look like? We’ll have to wait till February 28. I believe 2TalkAbout will perhaps addressed media fragmentation – general to specific interest – with an organization tool and publishing platform that brings people together in new and interesting ways. Home field advantage means a lot, and have a neutral place to connect could be very cool. I’d like to think of this new offering as the neutral off-site meeting place to hash-out whatever is up. Unbiased. Has to be. Independent. Of course. And, of course, this is going to be way more than just another destination site to post text, audio or video. This brings up a HUGE personal issue. As of today, I have approximately 178 different tools — each of which has a unique folder — so that I can keep track of all the credential information I need to login to these tools that I can’t seem to live without. And, there’s the problem, and the opportunity. And, how do I take my posts, compliments, rants with me?
